Tradition meets craftsmanship
Particular attention was given to the faithful restoration of handcrafted elements that define the character of the building – including ceiling lights, wall sconces and historical suspended chandeliers. The aim was to retain the original charm without compromising functionality, safety or contemporary usability.
Preservation of historical details
Restoration of the luminaires
As part of the project, 15 luminaires were carefully assessed to determine their restoration requirements. In the case of the ring chandeliers, numerous glass rods were missing and had to be replaced in order to restore the original appearance.
Some of the replacement elements were sourced from Bohemia, a region in today’s Czech Republic renowned for its long-standing glassmaking tradition.
For the remaining components, a close collaboration was established with the Open Glass Studio in Fribourg, in western Switzerland. Its four-person team produced the missing parts using traditional craftsmanship, ensuring that they integrate seamlessly in both material and style.
The combination of original replacement parts and newly crafted elements made it possible to achieve a restoration that balances historical authenticity with modern requirements in an exemplary way.
