→ Beat Lüthi
From an early age, I was fascinated by the mysterious world of past eras – in particular the artistic development of historical interiors and furniture. With tireless curiosity, I immersed myself in different styles and craft techniques, inspired by the beauty and significance of earlier times.
This passion has remained a constant throughout my life – a personal journey through time in which each object reveals new stories, secrets and remarkable craftsmanship.
After graduating from the restoration school in Lucerne in 1996, specialising in furniture, I founded my own workshop the same year. I quickly realised that light in interior design is far more than mere illumination – it is emotion, atmosphere and expression. Thoughtful lighting allows furniture, materials and spaces to merge into a harmonious whole, shaping a strong sense of comfort and well-being.
Beat Lüthi, Founder & Owner of dieZEITREISE
For me, the restoration of historical lighting is far more than a technical task – it is a sensitive interplay of craftsmanship, research and respect for the original. Each piece tells its own story: of its time of origin, of stylistic movements and of the people who created and used it.
With a trained eye, I analyse materials, construction and light effect in order to carefully reveal the original character. The aim is not to erase the traces of time, but to understand them and integrate them into a contemporary functionality. This creates a balance between historical authenticity and modern technology – allowing each piece to shine once again in its original splendour.

My workshop is located in the western part of the city of Bern, in a characterful industrial building dating from 1923 – one of the first flat-roof buildings in Bümpliz. This historically rich setting provides the ideal environment for my work, where traditional craftsmanship, research and innovation come together.
For more than three decades, I have dedicated myself with passion and scientific precision to the study and restoration of furniture and lighting. Over the past ten years, I have also expanded my international network and joined “Light and Glass”, a European platform for interdisciplinary exchange.
Through regular seminars and conferences across Europe, a dense and continuously evolving network of knowledge has developed. This exchange of experience, insight and passion is invaluable to me – it forms the foundation of my work and an endless source of inspiration.
Von A wie «Abwaschen» bis Z wie «Zur Vollendung bringen» –
das sind meine Kompetenzen
Leidenschaft . . .
